(Wednesday, August 5, 1953, 10:00 a.m. EDT)From Here to Eternity, an American romantic war drama film about the tribulations of three soldiers stationed on Hawaii in the months leading up to the Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, premiered this morning at the Capitol Theatre, a movie palace located at 1645 Broadway, just north of Times Square in New York City.

Directed by Fred Zinnemann, the film starred Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, Frank Sinatra, Ernest Borgnine, Philip Ober, Jack Warden, Mickey Shaughnessy, Claude Akins, and George Reeves.

The film won eight Academy Awards out of 13 nominations, including awards for Best Picture, Best Director (Fred Zinnemann), Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actor (Frank Sinatra), and Supporting Actress (Donna Reed).
