John Lennon tracks four songs for fourth studio solo album ‘Mind Games’ 50 years ago #OnThisDay #OTD (Aug 5 1973)

(Sunday, August 5, 1973; during recording sessions for Mind Games) — Ex-Beatle John Lennon resumed recording sessions for Mind Games, his fourth studio solo album, today at the Record Plant in New York City.


Video: 'Aisumasen (I'm Sorry)'

Lennon tracked four songs on this fifth straight day of sessions, including “One Day (At a Time)” (take 9 would be the master), “Aisumasen (I’m Sorry)” (take 3) and remakes of “Bring On the Lucie (Freda Peeple)” (first attempted Aug. 2, 1973), and “Tight A$” (first attempted on Aug. 1, 1973).

Overdubs for the album would be recorded starting Aug. 10, 1973, and mixing would begin on Aug. 21, 1973 — (“One Day (At a Time)” was mixed on Sept. 17, 1973, “Aisumasen (I’m Sorry)” was mixed on Sept. 6, 1973, “Bring On the Lucie (Freda Peeple)” was mixed on Sept. 12, 1973, and “Tight A$” was mixed on Sept. 14, 1973).

The album, which was released in the U.S. on Oct. 29, 1973, and in the UK on Nov. 16, 1973 was Lennon’s first self-produced recording without help from Phil Spector.
