(Thursday, October 17, 1963, approximately 9:00-10:00 p.m. British Summer Time) — The Beatles recorded “This Boy,” written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and the B-side to their fifth British single, tonight at EMI Studios in Studio 2 in London, completing the track in 15 takes.

The single’s A-side, “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” had been recorded immediately before this during this session for release on Nov. 29, 1963 in the UK.
The song was recorded in similar fashion to its flip side, with John substituting acoustic for electric rhythm guitar and John, Paul, and George Harrison sharing a microphone to sing the three-part harmonies.
