(Thursday, November 1, 1973) — As he traveled up the Pacific Coast Highway, along Santa Monica Bay, former Beatle John Lennon was interviewed by Elliot Mintz today on the beach near the Malibu Pier for a KABC Eyewitness News special report.

The original broadcast was screened in 3 parts during the daily 5:00-7:00 p.m. KABC Channel 7 Eyewitness News (Los Angeles) later in November.

The interview promoted Lennon’s Mind Games, his fourth studio album, which would be released Nov. 5, 1973, in the U.S. (Nov. 16, 1973 in the UK).

Recorded at Record Plant Studios in New York in summer 1973, it was the former Beatles’s first self-produced recording without help from Phil Spector.

Like his previous album, the politically topical and somewhat abrasive Some Time in New York City, Mind Games received mixed reviews upon release.

The album was recorded while Lennon was having difficulties with U.S. immigration and at the beginning of his 18-month separation from his wife, Yoko Ono.
