(Thursday, March 19, 1964, 7:00-8:30 p.m. GMT) — The Beatles film their debut appearance on Top Of The Pops tonight at the BBC’s Television Theatre (since renamed the Shepherd’s Bush Empire) in west London.

The show was normally broadcast from studios in Manchester, but The Beatles were allowed to pre-record, without an audience, two songs in London, for broadcast on Mar. 25, 1964.

They mimed to both songs from their new single, “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “You Can’t Do That.”

A fan filmed a silent home movie of some of their performance off the TV screen.
