(Tuesday, March 31, 1964) — Following a four-day Easter break, The Beatles returned to London’s Scala Theatre today to film the concert performance sequence which marked the climax of the A Hard Day’s Night film.

The performance took place in front of 350 fans, including Phil Collins, then a 13-year-old child actor, but later to find fame with Genesis and as a solo artist.

In the film The Beatles are shown miming to four songs: “Tell Me Why,” “If I Fell,” “I Should Have Known Better” and “She Loves You.”

They also filmed others, including “And I Love Her” and “You Can’t Do That,” but these were unused in the final cut.
