Busby Berkeley movie musical ‘Gold Diggers of 1935’ opens in New York 90 years ago this hour (Mar 15 1935)

(Thursday, March 14, 1935, 9:30 a.m. EST)Gold Diggers of 1935, a Warner Bros. musical film about a socialite who is bamboozled into producing a stage show in her home, opened this morning at the Manhattan Strand Theater, located at 1579 Broadway, at the northwest corner of 47th Street and Broadway in Times Square, New York City.

Directed by Busby Berkeley, the film starred Dick Powell, Adolphe Menjou, Gloria Stuart and Alice Brady.

The film had its world premiere at the Saenger Theatre on Friday, March 1, 1935, at 11:30 p.m. CST in New Orleans.
