(Wednesday, October 23, 1935, 10:15 p.m. EST) — Mobster Dutch Schultz, 34, was shot and mortally wounded with three other men during a gangland hit tonight at the Palace Chophouse in Newark, New Jersey.

Schultz lingered for almost one day, speaking in various states of lucidity with his wife, mother, a priest, police and hospital staff before dying of peritonitis on Oct. 24, 1935.
