Video: 'John Lennon Earth News Radio - January 1976'
(Thursday, January 1, 1976) — Former Beatle John Lennon and wife, Yoko Ono, welcomed the new year at their Dakota apartment today with a wide-ranging conversation recorded for a forthcoming segment of Earth News Radio, the syndicated rock-oriented news service hosted by broadcaster Elliot Mintz.
Mintz, a close friend of the couple, conducted the interview in a series of informal sessions throughout the day. Lennon at times appeared with the couple’s infant son, Sean, and later rejoined Ono for a joint discussion before speaking alone in a final segment.
Subjects ranged from parenthood and domestic life in New York to the former Beatle’s evolving approach to music and the pressures of public attention.
The recordings are scheduled for broadcast between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1 on Earth News Radio, which is carried by album-oriented rock stations nationwide. According to producers, portions of today’s interview will be serialized during the weeklong run, with additional material held for later use.
