(Tuesday, April 8, 1986, polls closed at 8:00 p.m. PST) — Clint Eastwood, the Hollywood actor who became one of the world’s biggest box office draws playing tough cowboys and revenge-minded policemen, today won a landslide victory as Mayor of the resort town of Carmel, California.

Eastwood defeated the incumbent two-term Mayor, Charlotte Townsend, by a vote of 2,166 to 799 (click here to watch “Almanac: Mayor Clint Eastwood”).
