The Monkees hold first official recording session 60 years ago this hour (June 10 1966)

(Friday, June 10, 1966, 7:00-10:00 p.m./10:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m. PDT) — Ten days after starting production on their television series, The Monkees held their first official recording session tonight at RCA’s Studio B located at 6363 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood with Snuff Garrett producing.

Garrett attempted to record two songs before the session came to a halt. The band had protested vigorously to Garret’s declaration that member David Jones would be the group’s lead singer going forward.

Garrett’s takes of “Take A Giant Step” and “Let’s Dance On” were lost.
