(Sunday, July 3, 1966, 4:30 p.m. Philippine Standard Time) — The Beatles arrived in Manila this afternoon from Tokyo (via a refueling stop in Hong Kong) wherein, after holding a news conference at the Philippine Navy Headquarters, they were surrounded by military personnel, separated from their their associates and forced to socialize on the private yacht of industrialist Don Manolo Elizalde, a friend of local concert promoter Ramon Ramos Jr., off Manila’s south harbor.
It wasn’t until 4 a.m. that the band’s manager, Brian Epstein, allowed them to leave for their suite at the Hotel Manila.
