Video: 'Last Train To Clarksville (2006 Remastered Original Stereo Version)'

(Monday, July 25, 1966, 7:00-10:00 p.m./Tuesday, July 26, 1966, midnight-3:00 a.m. PDT) — Session musicians recorded backing tracks for The Monkees’ first single, “Last Train to Clarksville,” and an early version of “I Can’t Get Her Off My Mind” tonight at RCA Victor Studio B in Hollywood.

Both tracks would receive lead vocal overdubs at later recording sessions on dates that remain unknown: Monkee Micky Dolenz on “Clarksville” and Monkee Davy Jones on “I Can’t Get Her.”

“Last Train to Clarksville” would be released as the A-side of the band’s first single on Aug. 16, 1966. It would also be included on their debut studio album, The Monkees, released Oct. 10, 1966.

The early version of “I Can’t Get Her Off My Mind” would not be released until 1994.
