(Thursday, July 28, 2016, 10:30 p.m. EDT) — Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of New York accepted the Democratic presidential nomination tonight at the party’s convention meeting at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Clinton addressed the convention two days after she defeated Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont 2,842 to 1,865 votes on the first ballot. Clinton, a former first lady and U.S. Senator, became the first woman to be nominated for president by a major U.S. political party.

Clinton had announced her selection of Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia as her running mate on July 22, 2016.

Kaine was nominated by acclamation on the third day of the convention (July 27, 2016) and delivered his acceptance speech that evening at 10:05 p.m. EDT.

The Clinton-Kaine ticket would oppose the Republican ticket of businessman Donald Trump and Indiana Governor Mike Pence (nominated last week) in the 2016 United States presidential election.
