(Thursday, August 23, 1956, 6:18 p.m. PDT) — U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower of Kansas accepted the Republican nomination for a second term tonight at the 1956 Republican National Convention meeting at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

Eisenhower was unanimously re-nominated while Vice President Richard Nixon of California was also re-nominated, winning all but one of the 1,323 delegates.

Eisenhower and Nixon would oppose the Democratic ticket of Adlai Stevenson and Estes Kefauver in the 1956 United States presidential election.
