(Wednesday, August 24, 1966, early morning PDT) — The Beatles arrived in Los Angeles before dawn today after an overnight flight from New York, beginning a brief respite from their current American concert tour before heading north for an appearance in Seattle.

The British quartet landed at Los Angeles International Airport in the early morning hours following their second consecutive performance at Shea Stadium in New York on Tuesday night, where tens of thousands of fans turned out to see the world’s most popular rock group.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr appeared tired but relaxed as they disembarked from their chartered aircraft and made their way through the airport amid tight security and a gathering of photographers and fans.

The Beatles will stay at a rented residence at 7655 Curson Terrace in Beverly Hills, arranged by their manager, Brian Epstein.

No performances are scheduled during this first day in Southern California during The Beatles’ 1966 US tour, but a press conference will be held tonight at the Capitol Records Tower.
