(Wednesday, August 31, 1966, early morning British Summer Time) — In their final public airport arrival photo call as a touring group, The Beatles returned home early this morning at London Airport following The Beatles’ 1966 US tour, greeted by several thousand screaming fans.

The group never toured or performed publicly again (except for an unannounced and brief performance on a London rooftop in 1969 for a documentary film).

Members of the band would now go their separate ways for nearly three months before reconvening at EMI Studios in London to begin a new era of perfecting their craft in the studio.
