(Saturday, August 5, 1916, 8:10 p.m. EST) — Intolerance, an epic silent film featuring four stories from different eras intertwined to depict man’s inhumanity to man, premiered at the Liberty Theatre, 234 West 42nd Street, on the south side between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue near the southern end of Times Square, in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City, New York (it had been “previewed” Aug. 5, 1916, in Riverside, California).
