The Ink Spots’ recording of “To Each His Own” was one of three versions of the song to reach No. 1 on Billboard‘s Best-Selling Retail Records chart in 1946, underscoring the tune’s extraordinary popularity during the postwar era.

Also climbing to the top spot were recordings by Eddy Howard and Freddy Martin, while additional hit versions by Tony Martin and The Modernaires each reached the Top Five, making “To Each His Own” one of the year’s most widely recorded and successful songs.

Despite sharing its title with the 1946 Paramount film To Each His Own, which earned Olivia de Havilland the Academy Award for Best Actress, the song was not featured in the movie.
