(Saturday, October 8, 2016, 3:53 p.m. EDT; during the 2016 United States presidential election campaign) — With his campaign in crisis, U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump vowed today to stay in the race despite calls from more than two dozen prominent Republicans for him to drop out following yesterday’s release of a Sept. 16, 2005 recording of him making lewd comments about women.

“The media and establishment want me out of the race so badly – I WILL NEVER DROP OUT OF THE RACE, WILL NEVER LET MY SUPPORTERS DOWN!” Trump wrote on this afternoon on the social media website Twitter.

In the video, Trump described his attempt to seduce a married woman and indicated he might start kissing a woman that he and television host Billy Bush, nephew of the 41st U.S. president, George H. W. Bush, and the cousin of the 43rd president, George W. Bush, were about to meet. He added, “I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. … Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”
