(Thursday, November 3, 1966) — Jefferson Airplane recorded two new songs today that could help establish the San Francisco rock group as one of the leading voices of the psychedelic music scene.
The group recorded “Somebody to Love” and “White Rabbit” at Studio B in RCA’s studio in Hollywood, located at 6363 Sunset Boulevard, with Grace Slick handling lead vocals on both tracks.

Slick, who recently joined Jefferson Airplane after leaving the Great Society, wrote “White Rabbit,” while “Somebody to Love” was written by her brother-in-law, Darby Slick.
The recordings are expected to appear on Jefferson Airplane’s next album, Surrealistic Pillow. Sessions ‘Pillow’ had begun Oct. 31, 1966, just 15 days after Grace sang her first concert with the Airplane.
Both songs would go on to become defining recordings of the psychedelic-rock era. “Somebody to Love” would become a major hit in 1967, while “White Rabbit” would emerge as one of the era’s best-known counterculture anthems.
