McCartney begins filming ‘Take It Away’ video promo 30 years ago today (1982)

(Friday, June 18, 1982) — On his 40th birthday, ex-Beatle Paul McCartney today began filming of a promotional video for his next single, Take It Away, to be released in three days in the U.S. and Britain.

The video, shot June 18/19/21/22/23, 1982, at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, England, featured former Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr and long-time producer George Martin, both of whom played on the track, as well as actor John Hurt.

(Friday, June 4, 1982)Poltergeist, a horror film about a family whose home is invaded by malevolent ghosts that abduct the family’s youngest daughter, opened today at the Cinerama in New York and other U.S. theaters.

Directed by Tobe Hooper, the film stars Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Beatrice Straight, Dominique Dunne, Oliver Robins, Heather O’Rourke and Zelda Rubinstein.

McCartney’s ‘Tug of War’ album debuts at #15 in USA 30 years ago today (1982)

(Saturday, May 15, 1982) — The album Tug of War by Paul McCartney (with appearances by Stevie Wonder and Carl Perkins) debuted on today’s Billboard 200 albums chart at number 15.

The album included Here Today, a tribute to McCartney’s former songwriting partner, Ex-Beatle John Lennon, who was murdered in December 1980.
