(Sunday, June 27, 1982, 11:00:00 a.m. EST) — The U.S. space shuttle Columbia went into orbit today on its fourth and final test flight, carrying a secret military cargo and an array of experimental instruments.

The multi-mission Columbia, piloted by Ken Mattingly and Henry Hartsfield, began its week-long flight after a punctual lift-off.

By the time the crew was able to restart the engines, the jumbo jet had glided down to 12,000 feet before making a safe emergency landing in Jakarta.

(Wednesday, June 23, 1982) — Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney today completed filming of a promotional video for his single Take It Away, released two days ago in the U.S. and Britain.

The video, shot at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, England, features former Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr and long-time producer George Martin, both of whom played on the track, as well as actor John Hurt.
