(Thursday, June 29, 1978, at around 2:00 p.m. MST) — Actor Bob Crane, the star of television’s Hogan’s Heroes, was found bludgeoned to death this afternoon in his apartment in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was appearing in the play Beginner’s Luck at the Windmill Dinner Theater.

The murder remains officially unsolved.

Crane was 49.
