(Saturday, September 15, 1967)The Doors, the debut album by the American rock band The Doors, featuring their breakthrough single “Light My Fire”, peaked at #2 on today’s Billboard Top LP’s chart for two consecutive weeks (Sept. 16/23, 1967), kept from the number one slot by The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

In 2012, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Doors #42 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” (Pepper was ranked #1).
