(Tuesday, August 27, 1968, 10:30 a.m.-12:05 p.m. CDT; during the 1968 Democratic National Convention) — The three leading candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination — Vice President Hubert Humphrey, Senator Eugene McCartny and Senator George McGovern — met face to face before the California convention delegation today at the LaSalle Hotel in Chicago in the first such encounter of the campaign.

Humphrey passionately defended President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Vietnam policies but did not take an opportunity to tell how his own might differ.
