(Wednesday, July 2, 1969, 3:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. BST; during sessions for Abbey Road) — Paul McCartney of The Beatles recorded three takes of “Her Majesty,” the first two of which were incomplete, with just vocals and acoustic guitar today at EMI Studio 2 in London.

It was the first of 14 tracks completed for the band’s next album, Abbey Road.

After George Harrison and Ringo Starr arrived (John Lennon didn’t attend this session as he was recuperating from a car crash in Scotland the previous day), they began work on “Golden Slumbers”/“Carry That Weight,” recording 15 takes of the backing track, which consisted of Starr’s drums, Harrison’s bass guitar, and McCartney’s piano and lead vocals.
