(Friday, July 24, 1959; during the Cold War) — U.S. Vice President Richard Nixon and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev held a series of impromptu exchanges, dubbed the Kitchen Debate, today at Moscow’s Sokolniki Park, where the American National Exhibition was being held.

The exchanges reached a high point a display of a model kitchen, where Khrushchev and Nixon argued, through interpreters, over the merits of communism and capitalism.
