(Saturday, November 23, 1889) — The first jukebox, a partially automated music-playing device that will play a patron’s selection from self-contained media, made its debut today at the Palais Royale Saloon in San Francisco.

The coin-operated device consisted of four listening tubes attached to an Edison phonograph.
