(Friday, November 23, 1979, scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. GMT; during the Wings UK Tour 1979) — Former Beatle Paul McCartney and his band Wings began today what would turn out to be the group’s final tour and McCartney’s last tour for a decade, performing the first of four shows at the Royal Court Theatre in McCartney’s hometown of Liverpool, England.

Today’s show was held for both students from Liverpool Institute, an all-boys grammar school McCartney attended during his youth, and and a group of local handicapped and blind children for a total of 1,500 in attendance.

The 19-date tour began after three weeks of rehearsals at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne. Songs performed during the rehearsals included “Twenty Flight Rock,” “Getting Closer” and “Again And Again And Again.”
