(Friday, October 10, 1980; during sessions for Double Fantasy and Milk And Honey) — Former Beatle John Lennon, who returned to the recording studio in August after a five-year absence for what would turn out to be his final studio albums, Double Fantasy and Milk And Honey (both with his wife, Yoko Ono), was interviewed today by Los Angeles Times reporter Robert Hilburn at The Hit Factory in New York City for an article published Nov. 16, 1980.

A portion of their conversation was captured on a borrowed video camera as the production crew was working on sampling sound effects from the film Star Wars to incorporate into a mix of Ono’s “Beautiful Boys.”

The encounter, recorded on the day after Lennon’s 40th birthday, would turn out to be Lennon’s final “interview” on camera.
