(Tuesday, April 11, 1961, 9:01 a.m. Israel Standard Time; during the Eichmann trial) Adolf Eichmann, the former Nazi charged with delivering millions of Jews to extermination camps during The Holocaust, went on trial today in Israel before a special tribunal of the Jerusalem District Court.

Eichmann, who was captured in Argentina and brought to Israel to stand trial, was indicted on 15 criminal charges, including crimes against humanity, crimes against the Jewish people and membership in an outlawed organization.

The Israeli government arranged for the trial to have prominent media coverage. Capital Cities Broadcasting Corporation of the United States obtained exclusive rights to videotape the proceedings for television broadcast.
