(Monday, January 29, 1973) — Paul McCartney and Wings completed recording sessions today for the British-American rock band’s second studio album Red Rose Speedway with a short, improvised brass overdub for the song “Single Pigeon” at EMI Studios, Abbey Road in London.

After six mixing attempts, the track was completed today. The album was sequenced and compiled on Feb. 19, 1973, for release on Apr. 30, 1973, in the U.S. (May 4, 1973, in the UK).

Originally planned as a double album, Red Rose Speedway was condensed into a single LP at the request of EMI. The company believed that the material was not of a sufficiently high standard and was mindful of the modest sales of Wild Life and Wings’ first two singles.
