It was Presley’s third and fourth number one hits on the chart.

In December 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked “Hound Dog” #19 on their list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time,” the highest ranked of Presley’s eleven entries. “Don’t Be Cruel” was listed #197.

Both tracks were recorded on Monday, July 2, 1956, at RCA Victor at 155 East 24th Street in New York City.
