(Saturday, June 13, 1970)Let It Be, the twelfth and final studio album released by the English rock band the Beatles, peaked at #1 on today’s Billboard Top LP’s chart for four consecutive weeks (June 13/20/27, July 4, 1970).

Let It Be was the final album that The Beatles completed and released before the band’s dissolution in April 1970, but most of that LP had been recorded (in January 1969) before the Abbey Road album sessions began.

Let It Be was released in tandem with the motion picture documentary of the same name, which premiered May 13, 1970, in New York City.

The film documents the group rehearsing and recording songs for the album. It also includes an unannounced rooftop concert by the group on Jan. 30, 1969, their last public performance.

By coincidence, In the Beginning (Circa 1960), the first consolidated American packaging of the 1962 German album by Tony Sheridan and the Beatles (credited as the Beat Brothers), called My Bonnie, peaked on the chart today at #117 for two weeks.
