(Saturday, June 13, 1970)“The Long and Winding Road” (backed with “For You Blue”) today became The Beatles’ 20th and final single to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, an all-time record which stands today.

The song was number one for two consecutive weeks (June 13/20, 1970).

The band’s first number one hit was “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” which topped the chart in February 1964.

It was also the second and final single from their final studio album, Let It Be, which was released in the U.S. on May 18, 1970, and featured in a documentary film of the same name, which opened in select U.S. theaters on May 13, 1970.
